2019 RQHBA Sale Report
2019 RQHBA Sale Report
The 19th Annual Ranchers Quarter Horse Breeders Association Sale was held on August 25, 2019 at the beautiful Besler’s Cadilac Ranch in Belle Fourche, SD. An excellent crowd of buyers showed up early and stayed for the best sale in the associations history. The sale stayed strong from beginning to end with the weanling market really heating up. Buyers came from multiple states to select from over 80 head of colorful weanlings, well bred yearlings and an exceptional set of riding horses. Seth Weishaar conducted a snappy sale with John E. Johnson providing the pedigrees and analysis. Unique to this sale is the weanling showcase; that allows potential buyers compare foals side by side. Saddle horses had a chance to show their “stuff” in the preview: shown on cattle, barrels or ridden prior to the sale.
The day started early with the RQHBA Futurities. Yearlings were shown in the Don Brunner Futurity followed by the 2 and 3 year old Ranch Horse Futurity. $5600 in prize money was available for the winners. The RQHBA Futurities are open to any weanling sold through the sale with eligibility staying with the horse, giving owners a chance to have fun with their horse and earn some cash.
Starting the morning off was the Don Brunner Memorial Yearling Futurity with $3000 in prize money awarded. Winning the Yearling Filly Class was Cowboys Star Lit owned by Frank Carlson and bred by Long Quarter Horses. The Yearling Gelding Class was won by Harlans Samba, owned by Ashley Secrest and bred by Hancock Maxon Quarter Horses. The Yearling Stallion Class was won by Reggies Sparkin Hot, owned by Aspen Larmer and bred by Mailloux Quarter Horses.
The Ranch Horse Futuriites had $2600 in prize money. Winning the Two Year Old Class was Sarah Moreland on Oles Duallin Cat, bred by Shield Five Quarter Horses. Winning the Three Year Old Futurity was Ashley Secrest riding Yo Setta Streak bred by Merrill Ranch.
40 Weanlings $1933.
27 Ranch and Performance horses $6816.
